About This Item

Modeled on the pattern of the great 16th century Brescian luthier, Gasparo da Salo. Gasparo's violas are considered among the best ever created, preferred by many to even Stradivari's, because of their dark, penetrating tone. With great projection and power, the Wang Gasparo viola is also surprisingly agile and responsive. Purfling is doubled around the edges, with decorative flair on the back, typical of the early Baroque style. 15", 15 1/2", 16", and 16 1/2" sizes.

WZ85V Bout width measurements:

15-inch Viola: 7-in Upper, 8.625-in Lower
15.5-inch Viola: 7.25-in Upper, 9.125-in Lower
16-inch Viola: 7.375-in Upper, 9.5-in Lower
16.5-inch Viola: 7.875-in Upper, 10-in Lower

About This Brand

We are pleased and excited to introduce masterful violins and violas from Beijing luthier, Wang Zhiming. A third generation luthier, Mr. Wang has been making violins for 40 years, with his father being his first teacher. After studying at China's famed Central Conservatory of Music, training as both a violinist and violin maker, Mr. Wang spent several years performing in the China Philharmonic. Fifteen years ago, he dedicated himself solely to making violin family instruments. As a result of further training in Cremona, Wang Zhiming's violins have a distinctly Italian flavor, perfectly and elegantly crafted, and finished with a distinct, hand-applied varnish with warm hues. Mr. Wang's violins and violas posses a rich tone, with layers of tonal colors, and with an uncommonly smooth, seamless balance, in the Italian style.
