About This Item

Strunal Model 504 Laminated Bass

This well-made and durable bass has been a mainstay of school music programs for decades. Crafted of well-seasoned spruce and maple laminates, for years of reliable service, and expertly finished with strong and attractive nitro varnish, for durability. Swelled back, gamba shaped. Well-aged quality ebony fingerboard, resists warping and cracking. Ebony nut, saddle, and tailpiece, for strength and reliable playability. Hand-carved bridge with adjustment wheels, allows easy switchover from classical bowed playing, to jazz, pizzicato, and slap-playing. Chrome-plated steel endpin with ebony plug, and smoothly-turning German made individual Rubner geared tuners. Fitted with D'Addario Helicore strings, and tonally adjusted by SHAR's luthiers.

A Word About Strunal Basses

Strunal's upright double basses are among the best-known in the world. With reasonable care, a Strunal bass will perform beautifully for decades. A favorite of both schools and professional bassists alike, Strunal basses are gamba shaped, for ease of shifting, and produce a fine and large tone. High quality ebony is employed throughout . . . no "ebonized" parts used.

What differences are there between the Strunal and the FH at the same price? Which sounds better?

SHAR Answer:

Hello Ron! The Strunal bass is Romanian made and has a warmer, European tone. The Franz Hoffmann bass is made in China and is a little more durable and brighter in tone. Let us know if you have any other questions!
