Nice looking, not perfect
I have tried many violin cases in the search for the perfect one. This Combi one looks really sleek. It seems well made and it will probably last a while…if the zippers hold up. The cons I see: 1) No latch or any other way to quickly close the case when empty, you always must use the zipper. 2) it's heavy! It weighs 8 pounds with its music pocket so once you put the violin and music it really gets heavy 3) Gets scuffed very easily. After only 1 week of use I have already noticed several dings and scratches. This is really bad considering I am a very meticulous person. Fingerprints show everywhere too. 4) The bow holders do not have lining so I am starting to see rosin residue 5) I wish they offered several size music pockets. The velcro one is too small for any scores, just good maybe to carry an tablet. The mesh is nice but your music will get wet…and then the big one well it's really huge! I can fit a whole overnight trip in there, but it does not fit a binder! It doesn't expand sideways….. Needless to say, I guess I cannot return it since it scratched so easily but if you don't mind the details go ahead and get it, i have gotten many compliments on it.
Flawless; what I've always wanted, but...
I was squealing when I got my white GL Combi violin case. Flawless, lightweight, yet so sturdy, it is the best thing any violinist could ask for. Everything was perfect, and I knew how to work the lock, but the key to it and the two "B's" for the two "C's (slits)" were missing. Are they hidden somewhere in the case or were forgotten when shipped?

cautionary note about color choice
Just a warning. Any black case can become a solar oven. I cooked my violin fairly seriously in a black BAM case carrying it on my back in the sunshine on a comfortably warm day. In fairness to other makes of case, the BAM I used is not thermally insulated, but next time I'll buy a light color if possible. A different issue: high class shoulder strap hardware tends to be sturdy but rattles sharply against the hardshell.
Love my Good Looking case!!
I love this case!!!! It is beautiful and very functional. The outside is gorgeous. I love all the combination of outside pouches I can use or not use. The zipper feels great. The inside is perfect to adjust for my little Amati patterned violin. I also bought the Oasis hygrometer and velcroed it to the Velcro that runs on the bottom inside of the case. The detachable accessory pouch I turned around to where it opens up to the inside of the case to make my accessories easily accessible. My last case lasted 16 years so I was quite hesitant to buy something new but I can't quit looking at this beauty. Also, the way this case was packaged was fabulous. It came in a thick cardboard box and packed well. I love the polypropylene bag the case came in, I plan on using it when I travel. Can't say enough about this case, other than I can't wait to buy the green denim GL case next!
3 years strong
I have owned this case for 3 years now to the date. I bought it in the second year of my undergrad after going through case after case due to poor quality. I was fed up with spending anywhere from $100-$300 every few months because the cases would just fall apart. I finally took the plunge and purchased this case for $650 at the time. I would pay that amount now even though the price has gone down. This is hands-down the best case I've ever owned and it has kept up with me the last 3 years. I do not use the music pocket attachments any longer due to their weight, but when I did I used the velcro one on the bottom as the bigger one that screws on top throws off the balance and the case will not stay upright. It doesn't matter if you're carrying a bag all the time anyway to have a music pocket attachment. I love the fact that the zipper locks in place. I throw my bag in the case and lock it up backstage during rehearsal for safe-keeping. It also comes in handy during a TSA check, as they will ask you to come unlock it. This prevents them from trying to open the case up-side-down (which I've had happen numerous times) and keeps your instrument secure. The case is fully adjustable for instrument length, and you can even take out the accessories bag on the inside. My only riff would be that I wish there was a fabric cover option. I like the look and feel of a fabric cover, although the plastic does do well to repel rain. Even so, I'd spend every cent again for this case. Amazing. (The case does come with a black cover, I just chose not to include it in the photo)
Bluegrass fiddler/ classical violinist
I have had my GL Combi for a year now and it is the best case I've ever owned! I play over 200 shows a year from weddings to cattle auctions and this case still looks brand new. The adjustable cushioning inside works perfect for my 7/8 size violin and the memory foam (!!!) cushions and blanket keep it tucked in tight. Last night my band was caught in a torrential downpour. I feared the worst but when I opened the case my fiddle was still dry and in-tune. This case has been all over the country with me and even though it's a bit heavier than it's competitors the extra storage (enough for an overnight trip!) and backpack straps make this case something to brag about. The only nuisance is the tiny zipper but it still works like new. I am constantly answering questions about it and referring my friends and students to Shar. A Beautiful violin deserves a beautiful case.
I love this case!!!
I recently got this case and I just love it! It suits my needs perfectly. It is great for the traveling musician. I wanted a lighter case that would protect my instrument, that would look good, both, in and outside and that would be easy to carry everywhere. This case is very versatile. It has a music pocket, a nice size front pocket and an inside accessory bag that can be detached. I love that I can leave all that extra weight in the car and just carry my violin! I'm not sure if I will ever use the mesh pocket but it is a nice option to have. Also, the back straps make the case feel super light! The rings for the back straps are separate. They help with comfort and avoid the noise that some cases make because the straps are being held from one ring. The length-adjustable cushion system is great for violins that are a different size from the ""standard" violin. In addition, there are two velcro strips at the bottom of the case (the soft part) that can be used to attach a hygro-thermometer and humidifier. The TSA lock and waterproof zippers are also a plus! I got the white color case because I live in the south and I want to protect my instrument from the hot weather during the summer. This is a high end case. You are paying for the nice features and high craftsmanship. It is not the lightest case but if you care for quality and protection, this is the way to go!
