The back is of one piece of Maple cut on the quarter of irregular flame. The ribs are of similar maple and the scroll is of medium flame maple. The top is of two pieces of spruce cut on the quarter of irregular width grain.
George Gemunder II, studied violin making under his father George Gemunder Sr. in New York beginning in the 1870's. He utilized his father's varnish recipe and primarily produced copies of other violins. Known for producing fine violins but did not achieve the same notoriety of his father. After his father's death he continued to operate the firm August Gemunder and Sons.
