Question by:

Asked On: 08/01/2016

Hello, This is my first time shopping for a lighter weight hard shell case. I'm just wondering your opinion about whether I should invest in a Bam case or buy the cheaper GL Combi case. The GL case has great reviews and I know the you get what you pay for but if the case will last longer and is more durable and safer for my instrument, I'm willing to pay the extra money. So I guess my question is: Should I save money and buy the GL case or should I pay the extra for a Bam case? Based on their durability and protection. Thanks so much for your time!

SHAR Answer:

Hi Emma, yes, it's a tough decision. We will say that both cases are very well made and respected in the industry and that either choice would be a great, protective choice. The difference, or deciding between the two types, is a matter of budget, weight, and features vs simplicity. Just to give you some more details, the BAM cases have a sleek look and are known for their simplicity. Most of them have latches (not zippers) which makes opening/closing pretty simple and they are extremely lightweight. The BAM cases will probably be slightly lighter in general than most of the GL Combi brand cases. They are great if you travel a lot because they'll be light (good for getting through airports or a lot of walking) and they will be durable (good for putting it in the overhead compartment etc). The GL Combi cases are ever so slightly heavier, but it's because they are extremely protective and durable. They generally come with nice features and bells & whistles. The particular GL Combi violin case that you're looking at comes with a music pouch that you can choose to attach or leave behind; it has an accessories pouch and detailed leather finishings. While it's not the lightest case ever, you're getting extremely good quality and protection of your instrument. Hopefully this will help you to come to a decision.
