Adequate Case for an Adult or Mature Student.
This case in an entry level case from BAM. I have been using it for 3 months now and have the following comments.
Not designed to be opened or stored open in an upright position. The case is rather flimsy when unlocked/open and easily tips over if not careful.
The latches are also are prone to not 'catching' if the case is closed in upright position. Better luck is had with case placed flat on back and latching horizontal.
The C-clamps used to attach straps to the case seem a bit over-engineered and they will not lie flat due to space constraints. If two rings were placed at the top of the back attachment point this might be less bothersome.
The case does serve my purpose despite these issues. Bows are held tight and interior storage pockets have proven adequate. The scroll loop and neck strap keep my cello secure in the case. I do not use the wheels/rolling feature so I cannot comment on it at this time.
I think it requires a little too much TLC for a beginner student to safely take out and put away their cello in this case and that is why I would recommend it only for adults or mature students who could make sure all the latches catch when closing. Finding a spot at a rehearsal/gig to lay a cello case flat is challenging sometimes...
I think this case might be overpriced at everyday price, but Shar has put it on discount from time to time- that's when I purchased mine.
