My almost 10 year old son has been taking double bass lessons for the past couple of months. He has been using a french bow but his teacher suggested trying german. His current bow measures about 2 ft end-to-end, hair measures 19 (it is marked S. Eastman), teacher says that it is a good size for him. Is a 1/4 the right size? Thank you!

hi there i want to buy a 1/4 double bass bow for my son. he is the beginner. is this bow good for him? what's the difference between German and French? Thank you!

Hi Ying! This bow is designed specifically for students a would be great for a beginner! Unilike other stringed instruments, with bass you have a choice of bow styles. The French bow has a smaller frog and is held using an overhang grip. The German bow has a taller frog and is held in an underhand grip.
