choosing a Bach viola transcription

Of the two editions of the 6 Sonatas and Partitas transcribed for Viola available, this International Edition is the more heavily-edited of the two. There are lots of added dynamics and articulations, and note values in some chords or double stops have been altered (such as in the Andante from Sonata No. 2). While these editorial changes might give a good approximation of intended phrasing or articulation, it makes the music very busy (turning 8th notes into a 16th note plus a 16th rest, or a quarter note into an 8th note plus an 8th rest). This edition would be better for players looking for additional guidance interpreting the music. For those somewhat familiar with the Partitats and Sonatas, I suggest the Ricordi edition.
