I bought this on a whim and have been pleasantly surprised by how much I use this with students.

I am an adult student who purchased a couple of these to help me with my bow distribution. Unfortunately, they don't seem to work for me. Unless you're looking directly at your bow while you're playing (which negates the point of using them so you get the feel), the hook part gets caught on the string which seems like a dangerous situation to me. I play viola and the hooks also don't completely clear all the hair raising the possibility of hair damage. Perhaps just turning them over so that the hook is above the wood might be a safer way to use them.

The bow stopper is a must-have for students of all levels! Easy to use and effective on all sized bows. As a violin teacher, this is my favorite accessory to encourage students to use the parts of the bow they neglect.

It isn't completely clear (at this time) in the description that the stoppers are actually made for violins - you will see that on the packaging once you receive it. The purpose I needed it for was with a cello student and although they were quite stretched once attached to the cello bow - however, they do work sufficiently well. They fit best toward the tip and on student cello sizes 3/4 and lower. I would not recommend for a 4/4 cello or for bass students.

I've been working with my young cello students on thoughtful bow division for quite a while now, but nothing seemed to stick. The bow stopper has helped tremendously (has positively affected the way my students use bow speed, weight, and of course area) and I have asked everyone to buy two of them. The bow stopper is made of flexible material, which allows it to be used just as effectively on a cello bow as on a violin bow. Happy happy teacher here!

This Bowstopper only worked well in the middle- to the upper half of the bow. In the lower half, the bowstopper hits the rib )or edge( of the violin when playing on the E-string.This makes the bowstopper not very useful for the beginners )pretwinklers( due to the small bowinglenght in the lower half on the E-string!
