Shoulder Rest Stickiness
I purchased my Comford Violin Shoulder Cradle (tall, gold) 12 years ago. A few days ago, I noticed that the black surrounding the pad was very sticky. I noticed that several of the reviews complained of having the same problem with no solution. I started looking for one to replace it with. Shar had it but it was out of stock. So I decided to try to clean off the stickiness. Because of its high price I thought that it would be worth some effort on my part to avoid purchasing another. I tried a few things and finally found that, with a lot of rubbing, rubbing alcohol did take it off. and it looks just like it did before the stickiness. I don't know if the stickiness will come back. Before the stickiness appeared, my quartet had played for an outdoor wedding in 95 degree heat and humidity. I started wondering if the high heat had melted the glue used in the manufacture of the shoulder rest and it seeped out. I'm now wondering if any of the other people who have had the problem might have noticed the stickiness occurring after having the rest exposed to high temperatures?
Thank you for your review! I'm sorry that you have experienced this issue with your shoulder rest. The stickiness that occurred could be due to age, playing in high heat, or a combination these or other factors. I'm happy you were able to find a solution to bring your shoulder rest back to like new condition!
