Question By:
VIVIENNE TRAN
From ROCKVILLE, MD

Asked On: 09/27/2017

What's the difference between TREATED and UNTREATED violin bridges? What's the difference between FITTED and UNFITTED violin bridges?

SHAR Answer:

Hi Vivienne, thanks for your question. Treated bridges are made to resist deterioration while untreated are raw wood. Fitted bridges have some carving to allow a close, but sometimes far from accurate fit to a violin's top. An unfitted bridge is an absolute blank. It is highly recommended that both be professionally installed by a luthier, but if in a pinch, the fitted bridges will sometimes work. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
