I find it works well at restoring student bows that have a sheen or are slick and won't play - a couple good rubs and it's working again. One can continue with the student's regular rosin or get the hair replaced, but at least is on their way again. Wasn't needed often, but always had a cake with me as the solution of choice.

Just received this rosin yesterday, and it looks awesome! haven't tried it yet, but i have heard many good things about pirastro gold rosin. however, the rosin doesnt arrive in the package indicated by the picture (not that it matters haha), it comes in a small black box with a white cloth covering the rosin.

I used this rosin years ago and had fond memories of it. But after using it for a week I find it powders A LOT and no matter how much you put on it seems to play right off the bow. It also smells odd, not a nice smell. It also deadens the tone of my instrument. I know it sounds a bit crazy but I tried multiple times using this rosin, wiping it off and going back to my Hill dark and the change in tone was remarkable.

Hello! The Pirastro GoldFlex is infused with gold dust and has a harder texture than the Pirastro Gold rosin, which often pairs well with gut strings. I hope this helps!

Hi Jim, thanks for your question. Most rosin will last for many years. Although, temperature fluctuations can affect the lifespan. The composition of the rosin will change over time causing it to soften/harden, crack, or reduce/increase in stickiness. If you notice a change in consistency or just want to experiment with a new brand, we recommend trying a new rosin. If you have questions about any specific rosins, please feel free to contact us directly at 1-800-248-7427.
