I've played violin 45 years and put this rest on a couple of years ago and I just love it. It's lightweight carbon composite, including the mounts. It makes MINIMAL contact with the body of the violin. So it should give your violin a little more room to vibrate and give you a little bit more volume and responsiveness. New materials and better science are helping luthiers squeeze more sound out of fiddles. Carbon tailpieces, steel and kevlar tailguts, carbon buttons -- it is worth experimenting with all these things. You may be able to really upgrade your fiddle with a very minimal investment.

For the hard-to-fit fiddler, Wittner adjustable chinrests can't be beat. They are light in weight and attach with a simple small screwdriver. Will not harm your instrument. Some assembly required -- the instructions are pictured on the inside packaging.

Hello Catherine! This chin rest adds up to 40 mm in height to your instrument. Measurements can be different from instrument to instrument, so for the most accurate measurement, add 40 mm to the height of your violin. I hope this helps!
