PHYLLIS YOUNG is acclaimed worldwide as a leading string pedagog. She has presented master classes and string teacher workshops in universities, conservatories and the string teachers associations in 46 states and 32 countries on six continents. She Is the Parker C. Fielder Regents Professor Emerita in Music at the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to teaching cello performance, siring pedagogy, and cello choir, for thirty-five years she directed the University of Texas String Project, a large internationally recognized string teacher program, which has served as a model for many other string programs in the United States and abroad.

She has served as the National President of the American String Teachers Association, which honored her with its 1984 Distinguished String Teachers Award and its 2002 Paul Rolland Lifetime Achievement Award.
