This violin is so awesome it has a great tone to it and has a good throaty tone. This violins should be sold for at least 3,000 dollars.

I have had two students so far purchase this violin. It has a wonderful sound and beautiful craftsmanship. In fact, Ive had students purchase Lamberti instruments in various price ranges and they all have been excellent instruments. I will certainly continue to recommend this brand.

I purchased the LV20S 44 from Shar on 03/28/2008 and have had it for 1 1/2 years. My previous violin was a Knilling Nagoya Suzuki Etude 4/4 (~$600). I have played the violin for 8 years and the LV20S is my third violin. I outfitted the LV20S with Vision V100 Medium Synthetic Core strings as recommended by the salesperson (Mike) at Shar. I also exchanged the tailpiece for a Witner Ultra with 4 built in string adjusters (Shar Cat# 1270P) since I like string adjusters to do my tuning. The two big differences that I noticed between the Knilling and the LV20S violins was their weight and resonance times. The LV20S was considerably lighter and made it much easier for me to hold it on my shoulder with my chin rest ( center-mounted Boxwood Flesch). As an aside, boxwood has the best color match with the LV20S and not rosewood as had been recommended to me by Shar. The heavier Knilling had been a big problem for me with the violin always sliding off my shoulder. I had tried various chin rests and shoulder rests to no avail. I almost switched to a cello because of this holding problem. The lighter weight of the LV20S 44 solved my holding problem immediately. The resonance time (pluck a string and listen to how long it sounds) on my Knilling Suzuki was about 4 seconds. On the LV20S, the resonance time is a whopping 13 seconds. Not only did this longer resonance time make the violin sound better but it was much easier to find notes because if you were slightly off a note the other strings would not resonate as much. This improved my playing a lot and has over time given me a much better ear for notes. As might be expected, the G string on the LV20S sounds considerably better than the G string on the Knilling Suzuki. The finish and flaming is exactly as is shown in the photos on line and in the catalog -- very nice. The back is not bookmatched, i.e. the two pieces of the back were not cut from the same piece of wood so they are not mirror images of each other like you expect on the finest violins. There were two minor mars on the finish. One was 3/8 long impression of a paint brush hair that had been removed after the varnish had hardened to some extent so you could see the imprint of the hair. The other finish defect was a 1/8 long scratch caused by someone presumably adjusting & sliding the bridge with the strings under tension. When you first get your violin, these defects are upsetting to a degree like a mar on a new car but after polishing the violin daily, these finish defects fade away to a large extent both in reality as the varnish flows some and also in your mind as the violin becomes yours. There are no wolf notes that I have noticed. The only notes that are not altogether satisfactory are the E and the F notes on the D string in the first and second positions. These notes sound thin for some reason as if they are missing the higher harmonics or some resonance with other strings. My Knilling Suzuki had a better sound for these two notes. All other notes sound better on the LV20S. After trying various strings on a cello once and being shocked by the very different sounds on the same instrument with different strings, perhaps the thin sound of the E & F notes on the D string have something to do with the Vision strings. Or maybe it is my playing. Or maybe it is caused by the position of the soundpost or the violin itself. An experinced luthier could probably figure out the reason. Was it worth $1600 in retrospect? Definitely yes if you like to play your violin daily.
