Dominant Synthetic Core Strings
Comparable in sound to gut, without gut's disadvantages. 

These strings have a highly flexible, multi-strand nylon core. The resounding success of Dominant strings is due to its similarity in tone and response to gut strings, without gut's attendant drawbacks. 

The sound is full and mellow, yet rich in overtones. Its ability to project sound without being metallic comes to the fore both in arco and pizzicato. Also offers effortless response to intricate fingering and tuning stability even under extreme humidity and temperature conditions. Dominant strings should be changed at appropriate intervals to ensure continuity of tone color.

Steel or Wound E String?

The steel core, aluminum wound E string in this set is designed to produce a slightly warmer tone than a plain steel E string, which is brighter but offers more projection. The wound is slightly more expensive, but we find, just as popular. Set with the steel E string: D129S

Loop-End or Ball-End E String?

This set features a loop-end E string, which is best suited for fine tuners with 1 prong or a hook for the end of the E string. Ball-end E strings are designed to be used with 2-prong fine tuners. Generally, most full size instruments are set up with a single prong fine tuner, which is designed for a loop-end E string.

In 1919 violin maker Dr. Franz Thomastik and civil engineering specialist Otto Infeld founded the company, invented the steel string and caused a revolution in the music world. Suddenly the conventional gut string was challenged by a new string with the highest quality of tone, precision and reliability. It was received enthusiastically by virtuosi across the world.

The string makes the music. The diversity and beauty of the musical timbre depend upon, on the one hand, the type of material used for the core and on the other hand, the material spun around the core. For a perfect sound, Thomastik-Infeld has consistently chosen steel and nylon as the string core material for bowed and plucked instruments.

    Good, lasting strings

    These strings sound great on my violin and have lasted a long time without showing much wear. I used to break e-strings, but the wound e held up extremely well.

    Good basic strings

    I disagree with Joel from Seattle. Dominant are cheap strings, but they are far from being just student strings. They have a very wide professional endorsement and are usually considered as reference, basic strings that sound at least ok on any instrument and to which other strings can be compared. They are well balanced, not too bright (except the first few days), not too dark, they have a good response, keep pitch like any synthetic strings. Personally I feel like they lack something, I prefer the brightness and colors of Olive, Passione (which I'm using right now) or Evah. It is true that for someone used to gut, Dominant won't feel good, but I think it's true for any synthetic strings, simply because we can't play the same way on gut and synthetic. Having made the switch a few times, I can tell that it takes at least a few days to adapt. ... (See Full Review)
