I've been looking for the best quality strings that bring out that deep rich sound. I just love the sound of the G and C strings. Dont get me wrong the A and D sound awesome too. The only thing have to say that is actually pretty minor is that they have a hard time staying in tune the first day or two which is only naturall. Trying different string brands and combinations is an expensive endeavor. And then there is the breaking-in time during which you begin to forget what the previous set sounded like. Dominants re the strings I have found to be the most successful across the widest range of violas. They are neither the brightest nor the darkest, the fastest nor the slowest-responding. They produce a clear, honest tone with a satisfactory response time on most instruments. They also have a reasonably long playing life. If you are on the inevitable quest for the perfect strings for your viola, start with Dominant (medium) D-G-C, and a Larsen or Jargar A-string. From there, you will be able to add or subtract strings/brands till you find your ultimate set-up. ... (See Full Review)
