It is the quality of our strings and rosin that makes PIRASTRO a well known name standing for reliability and beauty of sound. Many musicians of bowed classical instruments prefer PIRASTRO strings because of the string's ability to modulate and alter the tone. This allows the musician to create an individual sound and to evoke the special sound characteristics of their instrument.

From our beginnings as a small workplace of craftsmen in Offenbach near the Main River, a modern company has evolved, with over 150 employees. Today's production is based on computer-aided machines for precision manufacturing. In former times sheep gut was the sole raw material available, but now state-of-the-art synthetics and various steel and non-steel strands, such as gold, tungsten, silver or titanium are used.

Our research and development technicians work closely together with professional musicians in each stage of the development of our strings. Sophisticated research and development and quality control ensure PIRASTRO strings set an industry standard.

Musicians can choose from the most comprehensive string selection available, which offers gut strings such as Oliv, Eudoxa or Chorda, synthetic strings like Evah Pirazzi, Obligato or Tonica and steel strings such as Permanent, Flexocor or Chromcor.

Please inspect your strings immediately upon receipt. Installed strings are not returnable, unless they break within the first 30 days after purchase.

30-Day String Return Policy
Unopened strings may be returned within 30 days, so that we may supply all our customers with the freshest possible strings. Because of tonal qualities of each instrument are unique, we cannot accept string returns for reasons of tone, including false strings.

    Warm, lovely sound with great ring

    I love the warmth, beauty and purity of the string. I will say that I haven't found a 5-star string, so this is one of my favorites. It has a very good response, and you will not get a more ovely pianissimo sound from any other string. I used spirocores or vision solos, and i miss the power of those strings, but the Tonica's are less edgy and blend better, which is a plus for my chamber music activities. Also a superb string or the price--great value. I am a college student so price is great. I recommend this string to anyone looking for a lovely, pure, warm sound at a good price. Kim kashkashian used them once upon a time, and I can see why. My favorite of the pirastro viola strings. ... (See Full Review)

    Great tone, caution to players at high altitude

    I love the tonal quality of the Pirastro Tonica strings on my viola. They are very rich and warm and have really good projection. My viola has a very bright tone by nature, and the Tonicas elp to mellow it some. My one complaint is durability. I had a gig this weekend that required me to travel by car to a slightly higher altitude, and my A string snapped while I was playing during the gig. The string was fairly new and in apparently perfect condition prior, and should have been able to withstand such a small change in altitude. ... (See Full Review)
