As the title indicates, Wieniawski's Original Theme with Variations, Op. 15, is just that. The violin introduces the main theme in cadenza-like fashion, with the piano joining on the first variation. There are advanced techniques a-plenty here, from flying staccato to left-hand pizzicato, and many more. Favored as a showpiece, and often heard in violin competitions, this piece is a rewarding workout for the advanced player.
