This delightful showpiece by Tchaikovsky was composed as a gift for the composer's friend, violinist Iosif Kotek.  Requiring a high level of comfort with double-stops, large interval leaps, and passages played sul G (on the G string only), the Valse-Scherzo aims to showcase the violinist's technical competence and agility. 

This edition, based on a 1946 engraving of Tchaikovsky's complete works edited by Ivan Shishov and N. Shemanin, has been revised and annotated by Clark McAlister. Mr. McAlister has taken care to incorporate footnotes from the consulted edition into the music itself.
