These two pieces by Japanese compser Toshio Hosokawa were composed nearly thirty years apart. Winter Bird was first performed in 1978, then revised in 1985, and revised again more recently. The second piece, Elegy, was written as a memorial in 2007 and revised the following year. Hosokawa's style is unmistakably modern, even avant-garde. His works feature bleak colors and sparse textures, stretching the ears of both performer and listener. To performers in search of underrepresented modern works, those of Toshio Hosokawa are recommended listening.

This edition contains two separate pieces, both for solo violin. Published by Schott Music.
