John Corigliano's Snapshot: Circa 1909 was inspired by an old photograph of the composer's father as a young boy, diligently sawing away at his violin while his brother stared seriously into the camera, holding a guitar in his lap. Corigliano found something poignant about that photo, musing on how that young violinist went on to become the concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic for over 20 years. In his short quartet, Snapshot: Circa 1909, the two violins take on the roles of his father at different stages of his life: the first violnist represents the hopeful young boy, while the second represents the nostalgic older man. The viola and cello play the part of the brother's guitar, remaining pizzicato throughout. Composed for the Elements Quartet.

This edition contains parts for two violins, viola, and cello. Published by G. Schirmer, distributed by Hal Leonard.
