Winning Rhythms is a great rhythm-drilling tool for beginning to intermediate players of any instrument.  Edward Ayola’s flexible format allows students at various levels of proficiency to use the book to their benefit.  Beginning students, for example, can simply clap or tap the rhythms, while more advanced students may additionally play the rhythms on the notes of a scale. 

The book begins with exercises in simple meter (4/4, 2/4, etc) and gradually moves into compound meter (6/8, etc), complex meter (5/4, etc), and mixed meters. 

NOTE: this book is not instrument-specific.  It can be used by violinists or trombonists (and anyone in between) with equal success!
