The secret of teaching is to find the keys that open the doors for each individual student. -Irene Sharp. This is a great tool for every college music education program . . . all beginning private cello teachers . . . and a bull's-eye for Suzuki cello teachers. It's worth its price. -Charles Avsharian, Shar CEO.Internationally acclaimed cello teacher Irene Sharp shares her techniques in this inspiring DVD, through a seven month progression of filming actual student lessons. Building on a lifetime of teaching, she provides an invaluable framework for teachers everywhere to help their students reach their full potential. The DVD has a total of 19 tracks for a total length of 1 hour and 17 minutes. Each track is a progression in time with the same student (a young girl playing on a 1/8 size cello).

"I believe that anyone who can speak has the capacity to make music. The ability to speak proves that you can listen and that your brain can process information to communicate. These are the same skills that are used to play an instrument. The secret of teaching is to find the keys that open the doors for each individual student. My goal is to provide some of these keys for the beginning cellist. If the principles are successfully learned from the beginning, the student will be able to enjoy the ease of making wonderful music."

Hesitant because of the price, but no worries!

I have been so absolutely pleased that I purchased this DVD. Not only is it engaging and educational to watch Irene Sharp as a teacher instructing a small child, the video is well done with xplanations from her insereted as appropriate. The DVD also includes printable music for beginners. I am a violin teacher and I purchased this to give me a little more familiarity with teaching cello as there is no area teacher and I would like to incorporate cellos into my growing string orchestra. I was a little concerned about the price. . .that I might be throwing my money away, but I certainly have not. I don't recall how many lessons are in the DVD, certainly over 10, and considering cheap lessons are $20 a pop for 30 minutes, this is truly a bargain. Don't hesitate! It's worth every penny. Thanks, Irene. ... (See Full Review)

    Extraordinary Pedagogy

I am a middle school band director. Due to shifting of staff in my district's music department I found myself teaching cello to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders this year. I have had great success ith my students for two reasons. #1: I have the opportunity to take lessons with a fabulous cellist. #2: My teacher recommended Irene Sharp's DVD to help with pedagogy. This DVD provides a treasure trove of ideas for teachers at all levels. Ms. Sharp works with a very young student on the DVD but the techniques apply to all levels. I recommend this DVD to anyone who teaches cello! ... (See Full Review)
