Our original Plug 'n Play™ violins took the market by storm! The first truly affordable electric violins that were easy to play were an instant hit with our customers. We thought we should build on that promising beginning, but make some enhancements to make these violins really special as performance instruments. So, we worked hard with musicians, our Shar Apprentices and with our supplier to create the New, Improved Plug 'n Play™! From the cool "Ram's Head" scroll to the great new colors, this is an exciting instrument. Improved electronics allow the tone to blossom, sounding more like an acoustic instrument, worthy of live performance as well as a valuable practice tool for situations that require quiet. Great setup makes for smooth playability. Features a solid spruce body, with a bolt-on maple neck.

The traditional violin contours are uniquely defined by an attached high density plastic frame, which unlike many other electric violins available, allows you to use any desired shoulder rest. For the traditional acoustic violinist, this design makes the transition from an acoustic to electric nearly seamless.

The real change for the player is actually the fun part, and that includes using the instrument's versatile electronic features that include a 1/8" auxiliary input (for CD- or mini-disc player so that you can practice with your Play-a-Long method CDs), 1/8" headphone jack, professional 1/4" line out (to amplifier) and volume control. The built-in preamp features two different audio settings. 4 fine tuners (5 tunes on 5-string model), natural ebondy pegs, chinrest and fingerboard. Included is a Brazilwood bow (KVB), Toshira case, instrument cable, mini rosin, earbud headphones and 9 volt battery (required for preamp). Choose Black, Red, Blue, White, Maroon, or Natural Maple.

    Overall Good

    Overall, This violin is very good. The tone is nice and the instrument construction is sturdy. The only problem is that the strings are closer together than a 4 string. Other then that, very leased ... (See Full Review)

    happy but not happy

    Maybe this new one is better; I bought the original Plug N Play 5 string because I play both violin and viola. The sound was a lot nicer than I expected, more like an acoustic than many electrics 've heard, but the mechanics are a disappointment: the nut is as narrow as a violin's, but they've crammed 5 strings in the space of 4 so it takes a lot of getting used to. I hit the wrong string all the time especially in 1st position. And the C string is very slack...too short. Also the weight; it's so heavy!! it digs into my chin ... (See Full Review)
