November 30, 2012CodaBow is a good buy
I have been playing for a year and a half now. I got stuck with a rental instrument and after purchasing my own instrument, I really surged ahead. After a few months, I became more and more rustrated with my tone, and began to wonder if my bow was the problem. At my teacher's suggestion, I went to Shar's website for information and finally to set up a bow trial. While I had some money to spend, I wanted the best bow I could get for the money. The more I read about carbon fiber bows, the more I realized that they would be a consistent quality, since the inherent qualities of making a natural wood bow can't be as consistent. When I read reviews that great players used them often as a second bow, it confirmed that they were pretty good bows. In my bow trial, I compared the Presto Impulse with the CodaBow Diamond GX. Both instantly improved my tone. The CodaBow weighs a few grams more than the Impulse and I could make a better tone with the CodaBow, perhaps because of this fact. Anyway, I kept picking up the CodaBow over the Impulse and chose the CodaBow to purchase. One last thing that may be of concern: I was storing both bows in the bow trial case they came in and with it being late fall here in Kentucky, the humidity was about 35%. Both bows had the problem where you couldn't back off the tension of the hair completely. Once I placed them in my humidified case, however, the hair relaxed enough to release the tension. The carbon fiber doesn't change with humidity, but the hair does, so it is still very important to store the bow in the proper humidity. My guess is that the carbon fiber is strong enough that the bow wouldn't warp, but I believe that the hair would suffer from lack of humidity over time. I wouldn't have been able to discern a difference in the two bows I tried without an extended period of a week to play with each of them, so the bow trial is a fantastic service! I ended up very satisfied that I had chosen the best bow for me and my budget. ... (See Full Review)

October 13, 2011Beautiful, incredibly quality and balance
My teacher and I tried several different bows on my violin, and we both agreed, the Codabow was in a league of its own compared to all the pernambuco bows in this price range that we tried. his bow flows beautifully, is perfectly balanced, and draws a deep, rich sound from my dark toned violin. It is very light in the hand, but still able to draw a full, powerful sound. Even its appearance was beautifully crafted. I LOVE this bow, and despite previously being so set on a pernambuco bow, I am now a complete carbon fiber convert! =) ... (See Full Review)
