This chin rest is made of cheap material and is undoubtedly the most complicated chinrest I have ever tried to put on a violin in my thirty years of teaching. It comes with a special tool for nstallation that would not work on any normal chinrest. Plus, the legs of the chinrest detach and are difficult to assemble. I find the item to be way overpriced and nothing special. I was hoping to find a better chinrest for my daughter than those offered by the rental company, but this fails miserably. Save your money and buy a chinrest made of better material!! ... (See Full Review)

My son was having trouble positioning his violin properly and was constantly complaining about discomfort, so his teacher suggested replacing the "wing" style chinrest with this one. I was eluctant to start messing with the "hardware" of the violin, but this actually solved all our problems. It's smoother than our original chinrest, which my son likes. It was so smooth, in fact, that I worried it might be too slippery to hold, but he hasn't had that problem. It also elevated his chin to just the right height, and it's one smooth piece so it no longer pokes him in weird places. The shape is just right - ergonomic?
