Nilton Stands are the best gig & studio stands we've found! The Nilton Studio stand weighs less than 3 1/2 pounds, and now features an elegant black, wood-grained veneer desk that is as sturdy as it is easy to write on. Desk is separate from the base, and attaches securely and easily.

What's the Best Stand For Me?

That depends on how you'll use it.

Metal folding stands are lightweight, compact and economical. Shar offers many choices of these. The LS5 Compact stand is our lowest priced stand and includes a vinyl bag too. Spend a little bit more and get a Hamilton stand in either chrome or black finish. The Gig-N-Go stand is our heaviest folding stand - greatwhen you need more stability. If what you want is a very lightweight stand, choose from the Aluminum Compact stand or the Ultra Light Aluminum stand (which has a unique locking clasp to keep the desk absolutely fixed in place).

If you want something with more stability, but still lightweight, choose a portable stand in plastic. We offer four great choices - the Peterson stand is very cool looking with a transparent blue option. The Peak stand has proven very popular and folds neatly into a 6" x 6" x 24" bag for easy transport. Nilton offers two stands - The Studio stand that has a solid desk that slips neatly into its carry bag, and the Magic stand, with a unique folding design that lets you place the legs and optional light inside the folded desk - for very compact and secure travel. The Magic has been the personal favorite or Charles Avsharian, Shar CEO, for 20 years.

For studio use or wherever you need more durability, choose a metal orchestra stand. Shar offers Hamilton and Manhasset stands in a variety of designs. The Manhasset model AC48 is the classic orchestra stand, known by generations of music students. It now comes in a variety of colors too! Hamilton has been making stands since 1883 in the USA, and offers some unique features, including a one-hand adjustment system on the Trigger model (KB1FS). The other major difference between these stands is that Hamilton desks are steel, while Manhassets' are aluminum. A steel desk weighs more, but will also be more durable and resistant to bending, and allow the use of magnets.
.. Both the standard Nilton #1565 and Nilton Magic #1570 use the attractive and innovative base which features adjustable height collapsible legs and a lightweight, telescoping anodized aluminum shaft adjustable in two places with locking clamps. A simple 1/4 to 1/2 turning of screws at locking clamps allows for tightening clamps to ensure many years of use.

    VERY disappointed!

Very disappointed with this stand. The shelf is wobbly, the base was especially wobbly and parts of it are made out of very cheap plastic. Not 5 minutes after setting it up, I had stopped he stand from falling over (had a light-medium weight gig binder on it).-- A plastic piece in the tripod base broke. Even at 1/2 price this stand is no deal. There are far better stands out there for far less. Shar would not accept a return on this, but did send out a new base. I'm very unsatisfied. Looks like I'm stuck with a crappy stand. P.S. I really don't understand where all these good reviews come from..? Perhaps the stand used to be made from better materials? Needless to say, I would highly recommend steering clear of this one. ... (See Full Review)

    A minus

Ive had my Nilton stand over 17 years..This is a terrific music stand that stands up to the 3-5 lb gig books we use for our string quartets & trios, (the wire stands cannot). My only omplaint, which gives it my rating of A-, is that the top clasp does not hold under the weight of these books (it will hold the extension with regular music). No problems with the lower clasp or the feet clasp. The stand itself is very light weight & packs/unpacks easily. The desk allows me to place 3 pages side by side with only a couple inches hanging out over the edges. Plus I can make markings in my music with the solid surface. I really like the tilt feature of the desk. One can also adjust the feet to really wide position for more stability in windy conditions. The 2 loop carrying case is still in new condition, in spite of over 17 years of abuse. I would recommend this stand to anyone. ... (See Full Review)
