About This Item

Vivaldi's Op. 2 violin sonatas are notable in that they contain remarkably active parts for cello in the basso continuo accompaniment. Apparently, the composer had initially intended them to be billed as duets for violin and cello, thus giving the cello a more prominent role than usual. Although they were eventually published as violin sonatas rather than violin and cello duets, the notes remained largely unchanged. The second sonata in this collection, Sonata in A Major, RV 31, is bright and effervescent, giving the player plenty of opportunities to display virtuosity. Edited by Zino Francescatti. Published by the International Music Company. Difficulty: A4/A5
