About This Item

Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856) composed his Adagio and Allegro for horn and piano, Opus 70 in 1849, a year of productivity and good health for the composer -- two things that were both becoming more and more fleeting over the last 10 years of Schumann's life.  Adagio and Allegro was originally published with viola and cello parts by Schumann, so the piece is more idiomatic than one would expect.  While Schumann composed the vigorous Adagio and Allegro for amateur horn players, the piece is exceptionally difficult on that instrument, though it is significantly easier on cello or viola.

Edited by Janos Starker in collaboration with Emilio Colon.  Starker Performance Edition. Published by Ludwig Masters Publications.  Includes notes on editing by Starker.

Difficulty: A5 (Apprentice Rating)
