Once again we are looking for photos that capture the joy of playing – practice sessions, summer camps, performances – anything String related! This year we're particularly interested in photos that show parents, students and teachers playing together.
We will publish the winners in our Fall catalog and on our web site. Every winner will receive a $25 Shar gift certificate.

Helpful Hints:

The best photos show the subject clearly – well lighted, with a focal point that catches the attention of the viewer. |

Backgrounds are especially important – cluttered backgrounds detract from the image and can turn a great photo into an only average one. |

Posed shots can be attractive, and often are selected as winners. The best photos are usually ‘on the scene’ shots – at rehearsal, during a lesson or performance.
While focused on the main subject, they have enough background to show where it is taking place. |

Since we are looking to show the joy of playing stringed instruments, each photo should include a violin, viola, cello or double base. We consider electric instruments and fiddles to be in these categories, and of course having other instruments present can add to the total impact. However, a photo of just a piano for example would not be considered as it doesn’t fit what we are looking for. |

Artistic shots of an instrument are rarely selected. These can be quite attractive, but do not fit what we are looking for, which are photos showing the joy of playing. |

The best format is a high resolution .jpg file (over 1MB), which is sent as an attachment. Photos that are in the body of an email are lower resolution and can be difficult to view and reproduce. If you mail in a photo, please send it as at least a 3 x 5 print on photo paper. Images printed on regular printer paper are seldom usable. |

Each person is limited to no more than 5 entries. |

Please include your name, address, email address and phone number with your entry, and let us know the name of the person(s), group or subject of the photo. |

By submitting a photograph you are granting permission to Shar to publish the photo(s), and that you have the right to allow publication of the photo. Please do not submit copyrighted photos unless you are the copyright holder or have their permission. |
