Thomastik Dominant Violin String Set with Steel Ball End E String, 1/8 size, Medium gauge
Steel or Wound E String?
The plain steel E string in this set produces a bright sound with great projection. The wound E string is designed to produce a slightly warmer tone, and is slightly more expensive, but we find, equally popular. Set with the wound E string: D135S

Loop-End or Ball-End E String? This set features a ball-end E String, which is best suited for fine tuners with 2 prongs. Generally, most full size instruments are set up with a single prong fine tuner, which is designed for a loop-end E string.

Description
Thomastik Dominant, or simply called Dominant strings possess a warm, round sound quality, are extremely durable, and have a fast, easy response; usually right from the moment you put themon your instrument. This has made them one of the most popular strings for almost every violinist and violist, intermediate level to professional. Many teachers recommend them to their students over brighter steel strings because of the warmth and depth of the sound the generate.

History of the Thomastik-Infeld Company
In 1919, 2 former officers of the Austrian monarchy, Dr. Franz Thomastik, and Otto Infeld co-founded the Thomastik-Infeld Stringcompany and created a brand new steel string. At the time, violinists and violists were playing on gut core strings. The conventional gut string was suddenly challenged by strings that could produce the warm, pleasing sound of gut, with a durability and playability never seen before. Very soon, almost every player was using these strings, and they still hold up to the highest standards even today.

Dominant Synthetic Core StringsComparable in sound to gut, without gut's disadvantages. These strings have a highly flexible, multi-strand nylon core. The resounding success of Dominant strings is due to its similarity in tone and response to gut strings, without gut's attendant drawbacks. The sound is full and mellow, yet rich in overtones. Its ability to project sound without being metallic comes to the fore both in arco and pizzicato. Also offers effortless response to intricate fingering and tuning stability even under extreme humidity and temperature conditions. Dominant strings should be changed at appropriate intervals to ensure continuity of tone color. We invite you to see why Dominant strings are called "The Reference Standard" and are used by professional players as well as students of all levels. Steel or Wound E String?

The steel core, aluminum wound E string in this set is designed to produce a slightly warmer tone than a plain steel E string, which is brighter but offers more projection. The wound is slightly more expensive. Set with the steel E string: D129S

This set features a ball-end E String, which is best suited for fine tuners with 2 prongs. Generally, most full size instruments are set up with a single prong fine tuner, which is designed for a loop-end E string.

Finally, comfort AND performance in a shoulder rest.

Every violinist or violist has a pre-performance ritual: you clamp on your shoulder rest, tune your instrument, and play a few scales to warm up. Then you visualize the perfect concert. Your tone is clear and your projection powerful.

However, not all performances go as well as you imagine. Perhaps you miss a few notes or your projection isn't where it should be. Halfway through the performance, your neck begins to ache. The designers at AcoustaGrip want to change this cycle and allow violinists and violists to perform with confidence -- every time. Using simple but brilliant advances in design, the AcoustaGrip Shoulder Rest attaches securely underneath your instrument and adjusts to the shape of your shoulder, increasing volume and overtones by up to 20%. Here's how it works:

- Microgrip Technology: Violinists and violists stay away from adhesive shoulder rests because glue of any kind could damage the instrument's varnish. The AcoustaGrip Shoulder Rest is different. Using hundreds of tiny Microgrip suction cups, the AcoustaGrip anchors itself to your instrument using nothing but air and its revolutionary surface.

- Responsive Comfort: Even contoured shoulder rests will restrict your range of motion. What's more, you adjust to the contour of the shoulder rest, not the other way around. AcoustaGrip's responsive, layered foam forms to the shape of your shoulder, allowing greater range of motion and serious comfort.

- No Clamps Means Fuller Sound: The sound post, base bar, and blocking of your instrument magnify and direct the sounds made by drawing your bow across the strings. When you hook rubber clamps to your violin or viola's blocking, you inevitably dampen your instrument's projection. That's why the AcoustaGrip Shoulder Rest attaches securely to the base of the instrument, avoiding the instrument's major acoustic components.

The violin and viola were originally designed to be held between the shoulder and the chin, not by their edges. Now, with the AcoustaGrip Shoulder Rest, you can play your instrument the way it was intended!
