About This Item

As any dedicated violin teacher knows, a young beginner is in a particularly vulnerable situation: She requires a violin that is small enough to play, yet has a voice large enough to accommodate proper learning. Very often, this is the critical point at which a budding violinist will either be motivated or discouraged.

The new Franz Hoffmann Koe ("voice", in Japanese) is designed by a master teacher to help, not hinder, the small player. With its genesis in the 1/8, 1/10, and 1/16 sizes, the Koe is designed with up to 15% more internal volume than the usual fractional violins, releasing much more sound, not crushing under bow weight. Neck proportions and feel are traditional to facilitate small hand movement. Professionally set up with an Aubert bridge, a Wittner German tailpiece, and premium strings, the Franz Hoffmann Koe has a masterful fit and finish, including pegs designed to help inexperienced fingers develop tuning skills. Available in 4/4 to 1/16 sizes.

This Franz Hoffmann violin does not come with any accessories, it is the violin only. Most players purchase an outfit to start which includes a case, bow, and rosin, all of which are needed to begin playing.

Beginnings are critical. That is why we are committed to offering the best student instruments to beginning players. We believe this commitment is why Hoffmann instruments have become so popular with teachers, schools, parents, and beginning students of all ages.

We designed Franz Hoffmann instruments to give you the absolute best student violins, violas, cellos, and basses available on the market today. The consistent quality in materials, construction, playability, tone, and visual appeal make them a great value for every beginning string student.

Working closely with workshops, we have carefully designed and crafted each Franz Hoffmann instrument to ensure our specifications are met. These instruments are then to our Ann Arbor workshop to receive final adjustments assuring easy playability and polished looks.

The Amadeus violin outfit has everything the beginning musician needs to start off on the right foot! There's no need to settle for a poorly made, hard-to-play "VSO", "violin shaped object", when you can get Franz Hoffmann quality at such a great price.

POPULAR SHAR STAFF QUESTION
From ANN ARBOR, MI

Asked On: 08/02/2016

Oh, no! I broke a string! What should I do? Will this damage my instrument?

SHAR Answer:

No worries, it’s okay! This definitely happens now and then and it’s nothing to be too worried about. Unless all four strings broke at the same time (highly unlikely) and the bridge completely collapsed, it’s unlikely that there is any damage at all to your instrument. If it’s just simply one string that broke, then you’ll just need to purchase a new one and install it.

Unfortunately, broken strings cannot be repaired. They need to be replaced if they are broken. You can usually find them at a local violin shop. You can buy an individual string (only the A string, for example), if that's the one that's broken, or we also sell strings in a set of all four strings (E, A, D & G for violin and A,D,G & C for viola and cello). We sell a wide variety of brands of strings here at Shar--you can order them here online or over the phone. Our customer care representatives can help you place an order for new strings at 800.248.7427.

It's fairly uncommon for strings to just randomly snap. This is more likely to happen if the strings are older, worn out, or not in good condition. That’s why it’s a good idea to replace your strings periodically (their longevity will depend on how much you play) and keep your strings/instrument in proper condition. It’s also a good idea to purchase and keep an extra set of strings handy in your case, just in case a string breaks right before a lesson or performance and you need to replace it.
