Question By:
DANA MAYA
From BREMERTON, WA

Asked On: 11/20/2016

My almost 10 year old son has been taking double bass lessons for the past couple of months. He has been using a french bow but his teacher suggested trying german. His current bow measures about 2 ft end-to-end, hair measures 19 (it is marked S. Eastman), teacher says that it is a good size for him. Is a 1/4 the right size? Thank you!

SHAR Answer:

Hi Dana! You would want to select the bow size the corresponds with the size of bass you son currently uses. If he is playing a 1/4 sized bass, select the 1/4 bow option. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact us at 1-800-248-7427.

hi there i want to buy a 1/4 double bass bow for my son. he is the beginner. is this bow good for him? what's the difference between German and French? Thank you!

SHAR Answer:

Hi Ying! This bow is designed specifically for students a would be great for a beginner! Unilike other stringed instruments, with bass you have a choice of bow styles. The French bow has a smaller frog and is held using an overhang grip. The German bow has a taller frog and is held in an underhand grip. Check with you teacher to determine which is best for your son. Thanks for your questions!
